Captain of the Reading High School basketball team (1972). Rick was also named to the All-City and All-County basketball teams. He was a two-year starter at Wesley College and at Albright College, where he was the single- season assists leader for the Lions. In his coaching career, he posted a 79-20 overall record at Reading High School, including a 32-3 record (1983), and won three straight Berks County titles and a District III title (1983). He was named the Berks County Basketball Coach of the Year three times. Rick coached at Kutztown University (1984-90), won the PSAC Conference championship with a school record 21 wins and was honored as the PSAC Coach of the Year (1988). He coached the Alvernia University basketball team to 28 wins and was the Keystone Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (1991). Rick was an assistant coach at Gannon University (1991-95) and helped guide the team to three straight NCAA Division II playoffs. At Erie East, he coached his squad to a District 10 qualifying round. He later coached at Steelton High, where he won five District III titles and two Pennsylvania State AAA titles. His 2000 team won 32 games. He has been the Mid-Penn Coach of the Year twice.
