All Around
All-around athlete at Reading High School (1940- 42). He was the top-scorer in the Central-Penn basketball league for coach Johnny Smith. In amateur basketball, he scored 63 points for the Collegians (1946) and won seven scoring titles. He played soccer at Reading High for Leroy Jones and played end in semi-pro football for the East Ends. A US Marine in WWII, he served in the Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Bouganville and Guam campaigns. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross medals.
