A past-president of the Berks County Golf Association, Chip played golf and was a gymnast at Valley Forge Academy. He was an outstanding athlete at Exeter High School where he played golf and football. He was the Berks County High School Golf Champion for three years and was the District III Golf Champion for two years. He went on to have an excellent career at the University of Florida, playing on a two-time NCAA Championship golf team. Chip won the Philadelphia Amateur Championship (1977) and was the Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur Golf Champion (1999). He was the two- time club champion at Pine Valley, NJ Golf Club, which is the top-ranked golf club in the world. He has served as a director of the Berkshire Country Club and has won the Berks County Amateur Championship nine times.
