All Around

An outstanding athlete at Central Catholic High School. He earned 12 varsity letters during his career and was Central’s Outstanding Athlete (1953). Bill set a Berks County scoring record in football with 23 touchdowns (1952). In his senior year, he was named the top football player in both the Berks County and Philadelphia Suburban Catholic leagues. He played basketball on Central’s state championship team (1951). In addition to his achievements at Central, Bill led St. Paul’s school to a state CYO basketball championship and later played on the US Army Special Services basketball and softball teams. He played on the Bortz Chocolate basketball team that won city championships (1959-60). He was a PIAA football, basketball and baseball official for 20 years.
