One of the most versatile athletes in the history of Reading High School, “Nipper” earned 16 varsity letters in basketball, baseball, football and soccer. He led the Reading baseball team to three East Penn League titles (1939-41). He was the top-scorer on the Reading basketball team (1938-39) and led the team to the Central Penn League and District III titles (1939). He led the Reading football squad to an 8-1 record (1940) and is considered to be the best punter in Reading High School history. In addition, he paired with Bobby Harbach to win a Berks County Junior Tennis championship. His education was cut short when he enlisted in the Coast Guard upon the United States’ entry into WWII. He was killed when his ship was torpedoed as it entered the Mediterranean Sea.
