A graduate of Reading High School (1963). Freddie was a varsity wrestler for three years. He won a sectional championship and competed in the District III tournament. He served in the army in Europe, was an All-Germany wrestling champion and was on the All-Army Wrestling team (1964-67). He began his officiating career while in the army, which includes hundreds of high school and college matches, numerous District III and PIAA championships, 30 NCAA Division Tournaments which includes the national championships. A highlight of his career was officiating a bout featuring the undefeated Olympic champion Carl Sanderson. Freddie was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Oklahoma State University (1994). He was named to the Reading Eagle All-Time Wrestling Team (2000). He continues with his officiating career which has had, and will continue to have, a profound influence on the youth of Berks County. He has officiated for more than 40 years and has been recognized as one of the finest in the profession.
