The son of a Spanish immigrant, Pete has had an impact on the sport of basketball at all levels – scholastic, collegiate and professional. An outstanding player at Bethlehem Liberty High School, he capped his scholastic career by being named to the first team All-State team (1948). He continued his education at Lafayette College, under the coaching of Butch van Breda Kolf, gaining All-State Collegiate and All-American honors. Pete coached at Reading High School (1959-66), posting an overall record of 145-42 and winning two District III championships (1961 & 1966). He coached at Princeton University for 29 years, winning the NIT title (1975) while developing a unique style of basketball which many coaches try to emulate. He is the only Division I collegiate coach to win 500 games (525-273) without using athletic scholarships. During his tenure, he won 13 Ivy League titles. Pete coached the Sacramento Kings, of the NBA, for nine years and continues there as an assistant coach. His outstanding record and coaching ability was rewarded with his induction into the National Collegiate Coaches Hall of Fame.
