A three year letterman at Mahonoy Area High School, where he was named the Most Valuable Lineman (1965). Al graduated from Bloomsburg State College and immediately embarked on a football coaching career which has spanned over 37 years. He was the head coach at Muncy High School (1983) and has served as an assistant coach at Wyomissing High School and Conrad Weiser High School for 22 years. He became the head coach at Conrad Weiser (1988) and held that position for 15 years, posting 102 wins and winning three Inter-County League titles. He was the Berks County Coach of the Year (1993) and the Inter- County League Coach of the Year (1996). Al serves as the president of the Berks County Football Coaches Association and was a charter member of the Berks County Football Coaches Hall of Fame. At the time of induction, Al was an assistant coach at Wyomissing, winning the District III championship (2007). In addition to coaching football, he has coached wrestling for 22 years and the weight events in track and field for 11 years at Conrad Weiser and Wyomissing.
